Athletes – London
The Olympic Committee of Serbia has determined its goal and long-term mission in the period up to the Olympics in London to provide the athletes of Serbia, who achieved outstanding results, a secure and lasting financial support and optimal preparation conditions.
According to previously defined criteria, a categorization of athletes has been made. The athletes are classified into four categories on the results basis from the Olympics in Beijing in 2008.
In December 2009 Serbian athletes in individual sports, their coaches, sports federations and the Olympic Committee of Serbia, officially signed the agreements for financing the Olympic preparations for London 2012, and in November 2010 another 13 athletes were included in program funding, thanks to achieved results.
On that occasion, Mr. Vlade Divac, President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, told the athletes: “As someone who has already been there, I think that being a member of the Olympic team and being able to represent his or her country at the Olympic Games, it is the biggest recognition for athletes and great honor in sport. Now it is up to you, to your coaches and associations to be as prepared as you can, for the qualifying competitions, and then for the Olympic Games in London. It will be a great honor for all of us who are involved in this project, but also for the citizens of the Republic of Serbia. Your performance in London will commemorate 100 years from the first participation of Serbian Olympic team at the Olympic Games in 1912, and I hope that we will all rejoice together to 100th medal.”
Implementation of the London 2012 project enabled the partnership and cooperation of the Olympic Committee of Serbia with the help of Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia, the Executive Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the city of Belgrade, the International Olympic Committee and Sponsor Pool of the NOC.
The implementation of the funding has started on January 2010.
